Volunteers are special and needed members of our hospice circle of care. Volunteers support the mission, vision and philosophy of hospice. This program is designed to utilize the energies, talents and time of interested persons to benefit our patients, their families and Peace Hospice. Volunteers set their own levels of commitment based on their available time and our patients’ needs.
Hospice volunteers may choose to provide either direct or indirect care upon the successful completion of our volunteer training program which is offered at your convenience.
Direct Volunteer Care
This group provides comfort, support, care and companionship to our patients and families.
Duties may include but are not limited to:
• Visiting or calling a patient or family member.
• Providing companionship (conversation, holding hands, or just listening).
• Reading, playing music, walking, journaling, watching movies with the patient, looking at old photos with the patient.
• Providing respite so family members can take their much-needed break.
• Providing bereavement support (attending funeral or helping with children)
Indirect Volunteer Care
This role is mostly administrative. Volunteers in this group provide assistance in the office or with a special project or assignment that enhances the work of our staff and supports our patients, families and the community at large.
Duties may include:
• General office assistance
• Mailings
• Sympathy/birthday cards
• Special project
• Community outreach
• Volunteer recruitment
• Running errands
You may choose to provide direct or indirect care, or you may choose to do both. As our volunteer you are not required to spend specific number numbers of hours weekly or monthly. We promise to work with your time. We are blessed and fortunate that you have chosen to enrich your life by enriching the lives of others.
